Alliance

The Global Alliance for EcoMobility is a cross-sectoral partnership for the integrated promotion of walking, cycling and wheeling with interfaces to public transport, private car, housing & service sector, to reduce citizens’ auto-dependency.

Vision

The partners to the Alliance share the following vision:

  • Cities, towns and rural settlements where citizens of all ages and physical conditions can pursue their activity daily agenda move and around in a sustainable way without dependency on the private motorcar.
  • Marketplaces where people have access to all types of vehicles and other mobility aids.
  • An alliance of committed partners that advocates and catalyzes action.

Focus

The mandate of the Alliance shall focus on:

  • walking-cycling-wheeling (non-motorized transport)
  • interfaces between non-motorized transport and
    (a) housing and services, as well as
    (b) public transport and private car.

The Alliance shall promote EcoMobility internationally, in industrialized and developing countries.

Purpose

The Global Alliance shall pursue the following purposes:

  1. To coordinate forces in favor of EcoMobility as environmentally friendly alternatives to driving with the aim to reduce citizens’ dependency on the individual motorized car;
  2. To promote and advocate EcoMobility in cities, town and rural settlements for its benefits in the areas of health, clean air, noise avoidance, economy of use of public space, energy efficiency, and individual cost savings, and thus as opportunity for sustainable urban and rural development;
  3. To promote EcoMobility as solution in global climate change mitigation and adaptation, and to position EcoMobility projects in developing countries under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM);
  4. To encourage investment to make EcoMobility work;
  5. To identify opportunities for improvement in the EcoMobility systems, especially in the fields of road safety and interfaces between walking, cycling, public transport and motorized vehicles, and to induce innovative product and mobility systems development.

Terms of Reference

The statutes of the Alliance have been agreed by the partners and are subject to further refinement.

Membership

Interested companies, associations, institutes and agencies may seek membership by submitting their enrolment form.
