What is EcoMobility Alliance?

The EcoMobility Alliance was created in October 2011 in Changwon, Korea. It is a transformation of the earlier Global Alliance for EcoMobility,which is a non-governmental organization founded and launched in Bali on 10 December 2007, on the occasion of the 2007 United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC-COP-13).
The EcoMobility Alliance has defined itself as a “global” actor because of both the origin and nature of its members and its geographical scope. It aims at engaging public and private actors from different sectors and segments from all over the world, as well as promoting and advocating for EcoMobility at a global level, both in industrialized and developing countries.
EcoMobility Alliance structure
The EcoMobility Alliance is planned for a span of 6 years with 3 phases of 2 years each. The EcoMobility Alliance will be composed of 12 Alliance Cities and is serviced by the Secretariat along with various Alliance Partners. On a rotating basis, one of the Alliance cities acts as the Alliance Chair and hosts the Chair Office, an important role for representation and coordination purposes.
Alliance Cities - Alliance Cities form the core of the EcoMobility Alliance. Alliance Cities host and participate in Alliance workshops to work toward specific goals and quantified targets they intend to achieve.
Secretariat - The Secretariat (ICLEI) is the main executing body of the Alliance and has relevant planning and executing roles, some of which are shared with the Chair.
Chair -The Alliance will be chaired by Changwon City, Republic of Korea during the first commitment period of 2012-2013 (2 years). The Chair represents the Alliance at international events and contributes to the coordination and implementation of Alliance initiatives.
Partners - Alliance Partners are businesses, transport experts, international agencies, and non-city organizations that provide the cities with their knowledge and experience.
Alliance Chair: Changwon City
The EcoMobility Alliance is currently chaired by Changwon, Korea. Changwon is a city renowned for its environmentally-friendly developments and its innovative and high-tech NUBIJA public bike system. As Alliance Chair, the city supports the exchange of expertise among ambitious entities in the field of EcoMobility.

In May 2008, Hangzhou launched China’s first bike sharing system to support a more EcoMobile transport system. Meanwhile, it became the world’s largest bike share program. Residents and visitors may rent a bicycle and take advantage of the hundreds of kilometers of dedicated bike lanes.
